AzHHA issues RFP for OB emergency simulation training to improve maternal health outcomes

ob simulation consultant

Phoenix, Ariz. (Nov. 20, 2025) — The Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association (AzHHA) announced the release of a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a consultant to conduct obstetric emergency simulation training in emergency departments statewide. This federally funded project supports AzHHA’s mission to improve maternal health outcomes by equipping hospitals with the tools and knowledge to respond effectively to critical OB events such as postpartum hemorrhage, eclampsia and OB code scenarios.

The selected partner will provide comprehensive, on-site simulation sessions, including equipment, curriculum and trained facilitators, with a focus on rural, tribal and critical access hospitals. These simulations will assess team readiness, protocols and equipment availability while delivering actionable data to enhance patient safety.

Why this matters for Arizona

Maternal health disparities persist across Arizona, especially in rural and tribal communities. Emergency departments often serve as the first point of care for obstetric crises, yet many lack specialized training and resources. This initiative aims to:

  • Enhance emergency department readiness for obstetric emergencies
  • Reduce maternal morbidity and mortality through evidence-based practices
  • Provide actionable data to improve protocols and patient safety

Proposals are due by Dec. 12, 2025, with work beginning in January 2026. The maximum budget for this project is $100,000.
